Naughty Secretary Skirt – My first piece of clothing complete!

This morning I sewed the lining hem, finally finishing my very first piece of clothing!  I have to say, the hem was the most annoying part of the skirt making process.  Being so precise was not easy!  I was very tempted to take out the Stitch Witchery.

For the lining, I did the hem with the sewing machine, since it’s not visible.  It didn’t turn out completely straight, but I figure no one will see it.  Sometimes I can be such a perfectionist when it comes to making things, but other times my impatience wins out.  Seeing as the waist line and hem seem to be the most tedious part of skirt making, the hurdle to the finish line is that much bigger.

For the outside fabric, I used a slipstitch.  I think that I pulled the stitches too tight at first because you can see the outline of the hem pushing through the fabric.  Once I adjusted the tension, it looked much better.

  1. A pencil skirt was my first project as well – I took the class for it at Hartsdale fabrics
